Here’s to you Mrs Robinson: Performing Queer Subjectivities
Conference 14th - 15th November 2009
Brian Friel Theatre, Drama and Film Centre
Queen’s University Belfast
Registration is now open for this conference
The conference will bring together academics and artists to explore ideas about the place of queer performance – artistic, social and/or political – in contemporary society, and the responses to these performances.
The conference takes an interdisciplinary approach to issues ranging from recent media debates about the ‘performance’ of the LGBTQ community at Dublin Pride to the interrogation of sexual shame in dance performance, with papers from sociology and anthropology as well as theatre and performance studies.
In association with OUTburst Queer Arts Festival there are two public sessions: a panel discussion on the place and importance of the Queer Arts Festival, with speakers including Alma Selimovic, who will talk about the dangers involved in running Queer Sarajevo; and a rehearsed reading of Billy Cowan’s Smilin’ Through, directed by David Grant.
There will also be the launch of Queer Performance in Ireland, a new collection of writings edited by David Cregan (Carysfort Press).
