The Tyrone Guthrie Society was founded in 2000 to mark the centenary of Sir Tyrone Guthrie, one of the great theatre directors of the twentieth century and a former Chancellor of Queen’s University. Sir Peter Hall gave the society’s inaugural lecture.
The society exists primarily to provide a vehicle for faculty-directed extra-mural productions which have included Julius Caesar, Svejk by Colin Teevan, Tis Pity She’s A Whore, Our Country’s Good, Brave New World (which represented Queen’s in a student theatre festival Belgium), Oh What A Lovely War (which toured to Italy), Offending the Audience, and a stage adaptation of Seamus Heaney’s version of Beowulf.
A production of Translations by Brian Friel is planned for February 2010. |
